Stan’s City and Community Involvement

Resident of Bellingham since 1967

Retired Firefighter (1997) –

Served with Bellingham Fire Department for 25 years as Driver, Training Chief, Division Chief of Services (training, department records management system and facilities, including oversight of building of the Yew Street fire station and the Broadway Street headquarters station – both on time and under budget.)


Community Volunteer

United Way - 1981 – 2000

  • Fire Department and City staff fund-raiser
  • Allocations panel member and Chair
  • Board member - 2 three-year terms with last couple of years on Executive Committee and Fund Allocations chair in 2000.


Red Cross Board

  • 1980's - three year term, one year as Chair
  • 2005 - Chair for two years


Sister Cities Board - Tateyama, Japan 1994 - 1998

  • Chaired for several years
  • Visited Tateyama three times


Volunteer Center – Architect of Make a Difference Day campaign


Greenways Advisory Committee - appointed 1997. Served two full terms – last two years as Chair


Parks and Recreation Board - since 2003. Served on steering committee to rewrite Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan - adopted by Council in July 2001 & folded into city Comprehensive Plan last year.


Watershed Advisory Board – Appointed 2005 and served two years as it’s first Chair


Steering Committee for Greenways III levy - 2006 - passed with strong community support


North Coast Credit Union - Board member since 2003 & currently Vice Chair. Campaign contributor - door-belling & pounding signs for several candidates and other worthy causes.
